A national program that connects highly-qualified newcomers to Canada with members of the business and professional community will be launching in Waterloo on November 22, 2017 at the Uptown Waterloo branch of RBC Royal Bank 70-74 King St. South, Waterloo . The launch is co-sponsored by the Greater Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce, Communitech and the Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre which will manage the program.
The WR Connectors Program is modeled on successful programs in Halifax, Toronto and Calgary which helps local businesses find talent amongst a select pool of highly-qualified, English-speaking newcomers to Canada.
The program matches volunteer Connectors – entrepreneurs, professionals and business people in our Region –with professionally-qualified newcomers to Canada for a one-time meeting to help them kickstart their professional networks.
As Dave Thomas, the Connector Manager, put it:
“This is the perfect opportunity for super-busy people who want to volunteer. Our Connectors meet a person once for about half an hour and have a conversation about their industry. And then they recommend that person talk to three other people in their network. That’s it.”
Kerstin Beavis, Community Manager at RBC Royal Bank, added:
“Our Commercial Financial Services staff and Small Business Advisors are exceptionally well-connected in the business community. We are here to help our clients succeed by introducing them to people who can contribute time, energy and capital to their businesses. RBC Royal Bank supports Connector programs in other cities and we are glad that Waterloo Region is finally getting one too.”
The launch will be held from 8AM to 9AM at the Uptown Waterloo branch of RBC Royal Bank. Anyone interested in attending should contact Dave Thomas, firstname.lastname@example.org
